Perhaps the most alluring of the six ‘sestieri’ in Venice, Dorsoduro is much sought after by homeowners, most notably for its truly authentic ambience. Crowned by the magnificent dome of Santa Maria Della Salute at the head of the Grand Canal, the neighbourhood contains some of the most picturesque canals and ‘campi’ in the entire city and is home to excellent markets, restaurants, ‘gelaterie’ and everyday shops, all within very close proximity to our apartment.
‘The Venetian Terrace, Dorsoduro’ is marvelously situated two doors away from both the Chiesa San Sebastiano, whose interiors are a breathtaking homage to the renowned painter, Paolo Veronese, and the little-known Chiesa dell’Angelo Raffaele, one of the oldest of all the city’s churches, whilst a leisurely three minute stroll will bring you to the quaint Campo San Barnaba, the more energetic Campo Santa Margherita, or the stunning Zattere, proffering views across wind-swept waters to Giudecca island.
And, although our apartment sits in the heart of this quintessential neighbourhood, Venice’s most famous landmarks are a very pleasant walk away through historic passages and along peaceful waterways, culminating in traversing the Grand Canal by way of either the Rialto or wooden Accademia bridges.
We succumbed to our area’s varied charms years ago and we now, in turn, warmly invite you to come and bask in its village-like atmosphere, too, and experience our ‘little piece of heaven’!
